A Rare Corner of the World, Shaped by Nature
Our approximately 40-hectare (100-acre) property in Playa Cacao offers just eight secluded accommodations. Guests enjoy privacy and undisturbed nature, steps from the sea and only one kilometer from the port town of Golfito.
The land is already owned, both existing homes are under renovation, and restoration of the former cacao plantation has begun.
Beach Villa
Originally built in 1995, this spacious 140 m² two-bedroom villa is being fully redesigned, with completion scheduled for November 2026.
It features ocean views, a private garden of more than 1,000 m², and a peaceful setting between rainforest, creek, and the calm waters of Golfo Dulce, just 50 meters away.
Eco-Lodges
Six eco-lodges, ranging from 19 m² to 40 m², are tucked into the rainforest. Each includes a private bathroom, kitchenette, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and a spacious veranda, making them suitable for couples, solo travelers, and families.
Built using low-impact construction methods, the lodges are scheduled to open in early 2027.
Easy to Reach, Worlds Away
Tropical Fjord Lodges feels remote while remaining just 1 km by sea or 5 km by road from Golfito. The town is accessible by domestic flight from San José, car, bus, or passenger ferry from Puerto Jiménez.
Complimentary transfers to Playa Cacao are provided by boat or car, with free parking available at the road-access point.

Two local restaurants are within walking distance, while three waterfront restaurants in Golfito are just a complimentary 5 to 10-minute boat ride away, with transfers offered up to three times daily.

Whale Nursery & Dolphins
Golfo Dulce is one of the world’s four tropical fjords and is the only known place where northern and southern humpback whale populations migrate to the same calving grounds. As Latin America’s first WCA Whale Heritage Area, it is also home to two year-round dolphin species and more than 1,100 marine species, including endemic wildlife.
This exceptional biodiversity is why we are committed to respectful, regenerative tourism.
National Parks & Protected Areas
Tropical Fjord Lodges is surrounded by one of Central America’s most important protected ecosystems, home to more than 500 tree species, around 140 mammal species, and 370 bird species.
Nearby protected areas include Corcovado National Park, Piedras Blancas National Park, and the Golfo Dulce Forest Reserve.
Playa Cacao & Organic Cacao
Playa Cacao takes its name from the historic cacao plantation on our land. As part of Tropical Fjord Lodges, we are gradually restoring it as a nature-friendly cacao farm that protects the soil, supports biodiversity, and preserves the area’s cacao heritage.
Guests can explore the plantation freely or join a guided tour.

Ocean & Wildlife
Explore Golfo Dulce’s calm waters through seasonal whale watching, year-round dolphin tours, snorkeling, scuba diving, and boat trips to hidden bays.
The secluded 3-kilometer beach of Puntarenitas lies just 550 meters across the water and is reachable by kayak or paddleboard. Boat trips are also available to Pavones, a world-famous surf destination widely known for the world’s second-longest left-hand wave.
Beyond Playa Cacao
Explore waterfalls, national parks, the Esquinas rainforest, hiking, biking, rafting, and canyoning.
Golfito’s town center, markets, restaurants, marina, and tax-free shopping zone are just 1 km away by sea or 5 km by road. Paso Canoas and the Panamanian border are approximately 55 km away.
A Better Model for Eco-Travel
Help us build a small-scale coastal retreat where tourism protects nature instead of exploiting it. We will contribute 20% of net revenue to SaveGolfoDulce.org and provide land and infrastructure for its tropical research station.
